After a hearing in a New York courthouse, twelve jurors must decide the fate of a young man accused of murdering his father. He is facing the death penalty. The jurors must reach a unanimous verdict to the best of their knowledge and belief, based on their inner convictions.
The jurors retire to deliberate and take an initial vote: They vote eleven to one for guilty. The juror who voted not guilty explains that he has doubts and that a man's life is worth a few hours of discussion, and asks him to justify himself. He sets about convincing the other jurors, one by one. In 1957, Sydney Lumet filmed Reginald Rose's play as "The Twelve Jurors" and created a film classic.
