Big Country was originally formed in 1981 by guitar-playing founding members Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson, who both hail from the band's hometown of Dunfermline in Scotland.
The classic big country sound was originally driven by a shared vision of widescreen guitar melody, harmony and lyricism and was further strengthened later in the summer by the arrival of drummer Mark Brzezicki and bassist Tony Butler. This is the great country that (with producer Steve Lillywhite) recorded the classic debut album "The Crossing" in 1983.
With the release of the album's classic singles "Fields Of Fire", "Chance" and the signature song "In A Big Country", the band achieved a huge breakthrough worldwide. These later became huge worldwide hits, selling over 2 million copies and propelling "The" voran Crossing' to three prestigious Grammy nominations in the USA.
