Merck Summer Pearls: The Gardener & The Tree - Indie, Centralstation Darmstadt - 2for1-tickets
Peter Somuah is a gifted jazz trumpeter who learned to play by listening incessantly to his trumpet heroes Miles Davis and Roy Hargrove. Somuah captivates with his warm and melancholic sound as well as his rhythmic dexterity, which reflects his artistic socialization amidst the musical styles of West Africa. He touches his listeners and gets them grooving.
In 2021, Somuah was honored with the Erasmus Jazz Award for young jazz artists, and in 2022 he won the prestigious Edison Jazz Award with his debut album Outer Space. In his compositions, Somuah explores the boundaries between jazz, funk and traditional Ghanaian music, peppered with a touch of electronic music. He has already performed his music on many stages, including at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2022 and ESNS 2023.
