Shortly after breaking up their first band, the two Mexican musicians Rodrigo y Gabriela set off into the world with their acoustic guitars and ended up in Ireland. In Dublin, where they made their living as street musicians, they came to the attention of Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice, who asked them to support one of his early headlining shows. For the first time, a large audience witnessed this unique guitar duo. Live, this acoustic double-guitar attack unfolds its full force: while the rhythmic components are reminiscent of flamenco or tango, the origins of their music lie in heavy metal and classic rock. In the meantime, they are also experimenting with new genres, such as funk. Gabriela plays chords and uses the resonating body of her guitar for the percussive elements while Rodrigo takes over the melodic lead.
