Spotlight Jazz is a special concert format that takes you into the world of jazz in just over an hour on a special theme. And what could be more fitting than an evening centered around the central theme that defines jazz? Because everything that was new about jazz was first of all rhythmically new. We explore with you and the students of this year's season school how African-American influences have revolutionized Western music!
Rhythm is the core of all jazz. The swing, the groove, the play with timing - all of this was revolutionary when European-influenced music mixed with African music and ultimately gave rise to jazz. Join us for a deep dive into the subject, masterfully demonstrated by the experienced arranger and drummer Guido Jöris.
As part of the "Spielzeitschule" project, pupils are intensively involved in the design of the concert evening. In the run-up to the concert, they will explore the musical content and the historical and political background of the program and enter into an exchange with the musicians of the hr-Bigband. On the evening of the concert, the students will be well prepared to take over the moderation.
