Frankfurt Main ferry - between Höchst and Schwanheim - One crossing free of charge
The "Mainfähre Frankfurt" is the only bicycle and passenger ferry in the city of Frankfurt. It connects the western districts of Schwanheim and Höchst every day and is on the route of the GreenBelt Cycle Route. There is historical evidence that the ferry has been in operation since 1623. In 1945, a courageous citizen sank the boat in the mouth of the Niddam, saving the ferry from destruction. After the end of the war, it was pumped empty and was able to resume ferry service. The Main ferry bears the name "Walter Kolb" in honor of the deserving mayor of Frankfurt.
