BaBa ZuLa: Istanbul Sokaklari - Oriental Dub at Centralstation Darmstadt - 2for1-Tickets
Ever since Fatih Akin's award-winning documentary "Crossing the Bridge", BaBa ZuLa have been regarded as the spearhead of progressive Turkish music beyond the Orient. The Sufi tradition, Turkish nomads and pre-Islamic shamanic music meet modern oriental dub, Anatolian folk and 60s psych-rock.
The band's credo is constant improvisation and reinterpretation of the existing. BaBa ZuLa's concerts, which combine music, poetry, theater, painting, video art, belly dancing and traditional costumes into an audiovisual experience, also contributed to their popularity abroad. A bold balancing act between club sound and local inspiration, a mixture of Anatolian folk, pre-Islamic shaman music and psychedelic rock.
