On a black velvet-lined "peep-box stage" in the Velvets Theater Wiesbaden, black-clad actors guide puppets and other objects through a narrow alley of light. Only the objects hit by the spotlights are visible to the audience, while the actors remain hidden in the darkness. This allows the most amazing effects to be created, blurring the boundaries with reality and transporting the audience into a world of magic and illusion full of poetry and enchantment.

Under the hands of the woodcarver Geppetto, the figure of a boy is created from a piece of pine wood. He calls the boy Pinocchio, wishes he were alive, treats him as a living boy and teaches him to walk. Pinocchio the puppet runs away from home, behaves like a cheeky rascal, skips school and falls into the hands of greedy villains in the shape of a cat and a fox, chooses the wrong companions and even puts his life in danger. But his conscience, which he refuses to listen to, warns him, sometimes in the form of a cricket, a fairy godmother or a pigeon, and accompanies and protects him in all dangers. After many adventures and wrong turns, Pinocchio meets his father Geppetto again in the belly of a whale. Both are rescued and Pinocchio is reborn as a real boy. For schoolchildren & adults
