The Music of Marius Neset - hr-Bigband in the hr-Sendesaal - 2for1-Tickets
Marius Neset is one of the most active figures on the current Scandinavian jazz scene. Our collaboration with the exceptional Norwegian musician at the German Jazz Festival 2022 has resulted in a friendship that cried out for a continuation! Now the creative saxophonist is coming back to Frankfurt with a new, longer composition that he has tailored to the hr-Bigband.
Marius Neset owes his skills as an outstanding rhythm player to his very first instrument: the drums. Even as a young boy, he says, he was fascinated by grooves in unusual time signatures and began experimenting with polyrhythms at an early age. He later transferred this skill to the saxophone. Since then, the Norwegian has gained a lot of big band experience and enjoys exploring music across genres. His impressive catalog of original compositions for large ensembles has also earned him an outstanding reputation as a commissioned composer. Marius Neset has written three pieces for the London Sinfonietta, the most recent of which, "Geyser", premiered at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
