Opelvillen Rüsselsheim

The Opelvillen present an extensive body of work by photographer Robert Lebeck. Whether Willy Brandt, Elvis Presley or Romy Schneider - Robert Lebeck (1929-2014) came very close to all of them. In over thirty years, the important photographer created an extensive body of work that set new standards in photojournalism and portrait photography. His sure instinct for current topics and his talent for capturing them in just a few images set much-admired standards in the field of reportage photography. Lebeck was always more interested in people than events; he often focused on the small, little-noticed things and became a sharp-eyed illustrator and visionary interpreter of history with his personal photographs.

Forty years of photo reportages have resulted in personal shots of unobserved moments. His formative images of Germany will be the focus of the "Hierzulande" exhibition. What is special is that some of Robert Lebeck's photographs, some of which have never been published before, will also be part of the retrospective. Homecomers, the Bonn Republic, Germany in March and Elvis Presley, Maria Callas and Romy Schneider form thematic blocks in the comprehensive show of over 150 photographs.

The Opel villas are idyllically situated on the banks of the Main, nestled between Verna Park and Rüsselsheim Fortress. The extensive green spaces around the building and the art trail on the banks of the Main invite you to take a walk before or after your visit to the exhibition. A visit to the Main Terrace with a view of the river is also worthwhile, especially in the warmer months.
