Peter Bause takes to the stage as Bruscon in Thomas Bernhard's tragic-comic play "Der Theatermacher", directed by Axel Schneider. Schneider relies entirely on the power of the charismatic leading actor in his production.

The play itself is set in the desolate dance hall of the Schwarzer Hirsch inn in Utzbach. The emergency light burns above the doors, which have not been opened for years. The former state actor Bruscon is rehearsing his world comedy "The Wheel of History", whose climax and premise is absolute darkness. Bruscon gives the actors final stage directions, but realizes that this is a futile effort. The agonizing stupidity of the troupe of actors, an incessant pig grunting and an impending thunderstorm make the realization almost impossible.

And then there is the uncertainty, which lasts until the very end, as to whether the fire chief will even give permission to switch off the emergency lighting at the end of the performance. As expected, the finale turns into a fiasco: suddenly, a thunderstorm breaks over Utzbach. All the spectators leave the auditorium in panic, leaving only the actors, on whom it rains down through the leaking ceiling. Bruscon, in the costume of Napoleon, collapses in a chair.
