He often disappears abruptly and then suddenly reappears: Stephan Sulke. He is like a good red wine - the chansonnier was already enjoyable when he was young. He has continued to mature and shows distinct qualities in his old age. Years have passed, but the voice has remained the same: velvety, a little rough, the songs with an echo of melancholy, but with an air of lightness. Sounds contradictory, but it is. Because Sulke knows like no other how to clothe death, transience and morbidity in melancholy lyrics and melodies in his songs, which end on a comforting note, sometimes even cheerfully and convey a zest for life. Stephan Sulke's current program consists of a mixture of old hits and new songs.

The "Spitzbuben poet" mixes his quiet songs of love and suffering with familiar musical ingredients of dissolved chords, leading notes bent longingly in all directions and rock-bluesy splashes of color with unheard-of ease and with sense and sensuality. On top of this - and often against it - he sets the wonderful lyrics with his eloquent and mischievous voice.
